Thando is 8 years old and a happy member of the Extended Family programme. She is reserved, but opens up as you get to know her. She enjoys playing at the Extended Family ‘drop-in’ area with her friends. She comes from a family that is in hopeless poverty and on registration her mother said “at least my children will be able to eat healthy food every day and they can focus more on their school”.
Thando said “I love Steinhoff because they give me clothes, food, a school uniform and I enjoy the outings”.
Zanele was very badly burnt when she was only nine months old. Her mother used to make her own floor polish for household use and she used candle wax and paraffin as her ingredients. These ingredients fell onto the child and she was severely burnt. “I love playing at the Extended Family ‘drop-in’ because I get to play with friends who love me and show love to me…I also get creams that I use for my face and food everyday”.
